Alan Neal Kranning, 83, passed away peacefully March 22, 2025, at Brookdale Living Solution in Chubbuck.

Alan was born on March 18, 1942, in Grand Island, Nebraska to Henry Kranning Jr. and Alice Tennant Kranning. Alan was an only child. The family moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1945. He attended neighborhood schools graduating from Pocatello High School in 1961. He often worked with his dad who owned and operated Kranning Shoe Repair on North Arthur while attending high school and after graduation.

Alan served in the Air Force from June 1962-1966 in Europe. He received an honorable discharge upon completion of his enlistment. Alan then attended Idaho State University using the GI Bill. He graduated with a bachelor's degree in general engineering. During his career he worked in mechanical and electrical engineering. His career took him to the west coast working for Boeing. He then worked in Newport News, Virginia and Lusby, Maryland.

Alan was married to Jodee from 1974-1988. From this marriage was one stepdaughter Kelly (grandson Dooley). When the family moved to Pocatello, Idaho in 1975 he worked at The Idaho National Laboratory, a nuclear facility, until retirement.

Alan's passions included camping and fishing with his parents as a child, adding boating as an adult. He enjoyed darts and shooting pool, hunting and reloading. He had many outdoor adventures including horseback riding, skiing, and trips on his motorcycle. Several of these adventures over the years included one of his high school friend Tom Shader.

At Christmas Alan would make his mother's chocolate molasses rolled cookies. These were given as gifts. This was the time of year that he especially like to connect with friends with a phone call rather than a Christmas card.

A graveside Life Celebration will be held later this summer with interment of his ashes to be placed between his parents at Mountain View Cemetery in Pocatello, Idaho.
