Carolin A. Smith

Carolin Antonia Winthers Smith, 84, of American Falls, Idaho passed away on April 16, 2026 surrounded by her loving family at her home.

She was born January 27, 1942 in Pocatello, Idaho to Barney Theodore and Margaret Mercy (Robinson) Winthers. She was raised in Pocatello and attended Pocatello schools.

Carol worked as a housekeeping supervisor at Hillcrest Haven and Eastgate Nursing home for over 30 years, alongside her older sister Sherlin.

She married the love of her life Nephi, on November 28, 1958 in Pocatello. Together they were blessed with 4 children, Mindy (Manuel) Medina (Pocatello), Sally (Bob) Curran (Pocatello), Andy (Tammy) Smith (Pocatello), and Roy (Gina) Smith (American Falls). Carol and Nephi helped raise Marilyn A. (Leo) Otero (Washington) and helped Marilyn raise her daughter, Angela A. Madrid (Washington).

Carol was a loving sister, mother, aunt, grandma, great-grandma and great-great-grandma. She loved to spend time with her family camping and playing with her grandkids in the water. She also enjoyed watching her husband, sons and grandsons race cars locally. She loved going on road trips and many more things.

Carol is survived by her children Mindy, Sally, Roy and Marilyn (her baby sister), 13 grandchildren, 27 great-grandchildren, 12 great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents Barney and Margaret, her sister Sherlin, her husband Nephi Lamar and her son Nephi Andrew (Andy).

Carol will be cremated as per her wishes and laid to rest at the foot of Nephi. There will be a celebration of her life later this year.
