Deborah Jo Sumstine

Deborah (Debi) Jo Sumstine, 73, of Pocatello, Idaho, passed away peacefully on August 26, 2026, in her home, surrounded by her family.

Debi was born and raised in Pocatello, Idaho, to Fred and Marjorie Stevens. Family was the heart of her life. She adored her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren, and treasured the time she spent with them.

One of Debi’s greatest joys was spending time in Mackay with her husband, Doug. They loved camping, fishing, and enjoying the outdoors together. Debi especially loved fishing beside Doug in their boat. Their camping trips were filled with traditions and memories, including watching Twister in the camper and sharing cherries with vanilla ice cream. These traditions became special memories for their grandchildren as well.

Her grandchildren will always remember sleepovers at Grandma’s house and waking up to coffee that she made for them (with plenty of sugar), visiting her at the pet store where she worked, and the wonderfully chaotic and fun holidays at Grandma and Grandpa’s house. Her children will remember watching Days of Our Lives with her after school and listening to her cook dinner with her Walkman on, singing at the top of her lungs to Lionel Richie.

Debi had a lifelong love of animals, especially her beloved dogs, who were truly part of her family. In her younger years, she enjoyed playing softball and the friendships and memories that came with it.

Debi is survived by her husband, Doug; her children, Nicky, Treena, and Jimmy; her grandchildren, Megan, Brittney, Sami, Coleton, Nate, Taybree, and Emily; her great-grandchildren, McKinley, Maeve, River, and Aubrey; and her siblings, Bob and Sue.

She was preceded in death by her beloved son, Joshua; her mother, Marjorie; and her father, Fred.

Debi leaves behind a lifetime of love, laughter, family traditions, and wonderful memories. She will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.

A celebration of life will be held at 5071 Constitution Ave, Chubbuck, Idaho 83202, on October 17th from 2:00–5:00 p.m. Family and friends are invited to come together to remember Debi, share stories, and celebrate the beautiful life she lived.
