IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Melinda
Peterson
January 23, 1951 – July 15, 2025
Melinda Ann Peterson, age 74, of Pocatello, Idaho passed away with grace in her peaceful home the morning of July 15, 2025. She loved the early morning hours to contemplate, meditate, and ask Spirit, “What would you have me do today?” Melinda lived a full life. Who was she? Most importantly, she was a mother of three and grandmother of two. Then, a dancer/nature lover/ artist/ gardener/ Yogini/ author/ teacher/ and a friend to many. And always a Warrior Queen.
Melinda, from early childhood until death, skillfully painted landscapes and forms that captured her spiritual visions and emotions. She was a professional ballerina who performed with Ballet West. She swapped her ballet slippers for hiking boots and made her way into the wild Sawtooth mountains where she became well-versed in herbology and survival skills. Melinda's mission in life was to "Celebrate the Light of Truth” from ancient teachings, and to teach and spread love of and commitment to Spirit. She had businesses in Salt Lake City and Pocatello, teaching esoteric philosophy and yoga. She lectured at the University of Utah and participated in developing a course at Stanford University. There were grave illnesses and accidents from which she recovered to forge her style of restorative yoga. She lovingly sheltered people who were abused, misunderstood, and invisible to many. She helped people manifest their dreams and see possibilities. Her love was given freely, with special attention to those who needed help, including all creatures great and small, like wounded wild birds. She was bigger than life, standing at the front door in defiance to those who meant harm.
Melinda was proud of her children– Collin, a farmer, Yarrow, a teacher, and Jair, who received a full ride scholarship in Physics. She loved her grandchildren and looked forward to watching them grow to develop their talents.
Cancer came, which taught her new lessons. These she passed on to those around her, teaching to the end with humor and lightheartedness. Melinda’s care team of family, friends, and Hospice came together and rallied to show their love and support for her to the end. In one of her last conversations, she expressed how much she truly “just loves Life and to learn…so much.” May her light, wisdom and teachings continue to radiate through our hearts and minds. Peace be with you. Om Shanti.
