Obituary

Helen Patricia (Patty) Ritchey Toevs (103) passed away on August 28, 2025 in the comfort of her home. She was born on March 17, 1922, to William Manley Ritchey and Myrna Kenward Ritchey in Melba, Idaho. She graduated from Boise High School in 1940 and then attended Mary Washington University in Fredericksburg, VA and the University of Idaho in Moscow, ID.

Patty was married to Ted Creason in 1946 and after his death, to Gordon Toevs in 1951.  She is survived by her daughter-in-law, Marsha Creason (Ted); and her children, Helen (Penny) Nelsen (Mike), Gordon Toevs (Brenda), Ritchey Toevs (Joanne), Sarah Toevs Hoagland (Kevin), and Anne Beck (Phil).  She is also survived by her 13 grandchildren and 35 great-grandchildren; and sister, Myrna Luther.

She saw amazing technological advances during her life.  Regardless of the changes around her, she always had a ready smile and remained devoted to family and friends with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren holding a special place in her heart.

Patty was a member of the First Mennonite Church and was committed to her church and community.  She was involved in many activities including quilting, Women’s Club, Fit and Fall Proof classes, and the school reading program. She was also an avid bridge player into her second century and always ready for a game with her friends.

Patty was a mentor, though often in ways unnoticed. She freely shared her time and talents-whether in the kitchen, garden, or in guiding others through life challenges with quiet confidence. Her gift was the ability to influence lives gently, leading by example rather than instruction.  She faced the future with steady assurance that all would be well, and in doing so, she leaves a rich and lasting legacy.

A Celebration of Life will be held at the First Mennonite Church in Aberdeen on September 27, 2025 at 11:00. A memorial in her name can be given to the charity of your choice or the Aberdeen Humanitarian Committee or First Mennonite Church.  Special thanks to Enhabit Hospice and staff for their care and support.

Memories and condolences may be shared using the guestbook below.
